Obesity and Pregnancy

Introduction

Pregnant women who are defined as obese at conception and during their pregnancy are at risk for increased morbidities including:

  • complication of labor and delivery
  • higher rate of newborn complications
  • higher rate of childhood and adult obesity and diabetes in offspring
  • longer and prolonged labors
