Laurence Shields, MD is a member of the PMAR and CMQCC hemorrhage task force. He is currently a member of a three-person maternal-fetal-medicine group in San Luis Obispo. He is also a member of the Catholic Health Systems West Perinatal Safety and Improvement Coalition. Within the San Luis Obispo region Dr Shields has worked to establish obstetrical hemorrhage and labor policies designed to improve patient safety. He was recently named Adjunct Clinical Professor of Obstetric and Gynecology at Stanford University.
Dr Shields received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He completed his fellowship at the University of California San Diego. After fellowship, Dr Shields joined the faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle where he practiced for 13 years. During that time he participated in a numerous clinical outreach programs, directed the maternal fetal medicine fellowship program, and published and lectured widely in both preclinical and clinical areas. In 2006 Dr Shields and his family relocated near his home-town on California’s Central Coast.
