Dr. Mason is the Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine and Serology in the Department of Pathology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. She is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Mason graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in two fields: Linguistics and Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1986 at the University of Oregon in Eugene. She went on to do an additional two years of undergraduate work in pre-medicine at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. In 1995 she graduated with a degree in medicine from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She subsequently completed four years of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. This was followed by a fellowship in Surgical Pathology/Chief Resident at UCLA Medical Center. Finally, her training was completed with an additional fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, starting current position in 2001.
Dr. Mason is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Blood Bank Society and past committee chair of the Scientific Program Committee for that organization. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Southern California Region from 2002-08, as well as member of the Donor Recruitment Committee and Medical Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Association of Blood Bankers. She has given numerous talks on Transfusion Medicine to the blood banking community as well as to other medical specialists who utilize blood.
