Photo Debra Bingham, DrPH, RN, Executive Director for the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) from 2006-2010. Ms. Bingham has a Doctorate of Public Health from the University of North Carolina in the Department of Health Policy and Management. Ms. Bingham's doctoral dissertation is entitled:  Measuring and Increasing the Effectiveness of Quality Improvement Implementation Change Practices of Front-Line Maternity Physician and Nurse Leaders.  Ms. Bingham has over 30 years of high-risk perinatal nursing experience and graduated from Columbia University in 1990 with a Master's of Science degree as a perinatal clinical nurse specialist. Ms. Bingham's clinical and leadership experience includes case management of high-risk pregnancies, staff development, and progressive leadership positions in Maternal Child Health (MCH) including Neonatal Intensive Care. Prior to moving to California she was the director of MCH nursing for St. Luke's and Roosevelt hospitals in New York City. As the Director of MCH Nursing Ms. Bingham oversaw the 24 hour 7 day a week operations of over 250 nurses in 7 MCH specialty units with approximately 6,000 deliveries a year. In collaboration with her leadership team they successfully improved clinical care in all of the units Ms. Bingham was responsible for through systematic quality improvement projects. Two of the major improvements Ms. Bingham led were to keep mothers and newborns together and pain assessment and treatment for full-term and premature infants.

Collaboration and data will help us "see" new possibilities and "enact" new realities of improved birth outcomes for mothers and their newborns.
