Valerie Yates Huwe RNC, BSN, has been at Clinical Nurse in Labor and Delivery since 1989 and is currently employed as a labor and delivery nurse at El Camino Hospital and as an antenatal testing nurse at Stanford Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Jose State University and is in her second year of graduate school at UCSF pursuing a Master’s degree in perinatal nursing. She has been a staff nurse at Stanford Hospital since 1984 where she worked in the pediatric intensive unit and was utilized as a resource nurse as well as a member of the pediatric critical care nurse transport team. As a perinatal educator, her programs have focused on childbirth preparation, and obstetrical emergencies. With over 25 years of nursing experience in both clinical and educational positions, she has served on many committees over the years and is currently the co-chair of the Partnership Council at El Camino Hospital. Her most recent project has been creating a customized massive transfusion guideline for patients with severe postpartum hemorrhage using a multidisciplinary approach.
