Preeclampsia Task Force

Objectives

The charge of the CMQCC Preclampsia Task Force is to define the scope of the problem of preeclampsia, determining best practices for the prevention of and response to preeclampsia, and determining the most effective strategies for supporting California health providers in implementing those practices.

Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of Maternal Mortality and one with a high level of preventability.  Quality improvement opportunities were identified through the CA-PAMR case reviews that naturally lead to teaching points and items for a toolkit.   Issues that the task force will focus on will be: 1) missed and under diagnosis of preeclampsia; 2) the role of triggers; 3) under-use and misuse of hypertensive medications; and 4) special issues for the Emergency Department.  Further topics will be identified during task force meetings and through further PAMR analyses.
