Obesity in Pregnancy

Background

Pregnant women of varying BMIs (Body Mass Index) are at risk for morbidities associated with pregnancy,  worse birth outcomes and long-term effects throughout the reproductive cycle of their lives.  Obesity in the United States has increased 69% from 1993-2003.

Introduction

Definitions of Obesity by BMI Index:

Underweight:  BMI < 18.5
Normal weight: BMI 18.5-24.9
Overweight: BMI 25-25.9
Obese: BMI >30
