Laurence Shields, MD is currently the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, California. Dr. Shields received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. He completed his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of California San Diego. After fellowship, he joined the faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle where he practiced for 13 years. During that time he participated in a numerous clinical outreach programs, directed the Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship program, and published and lectured widely in both preclinical and clinical areas. In 2006 Dr. Shields and his family relocated near his home-town on California’s Central Coast. Since relocating to California Dr. Shields has been an active participant at CMQCC serving as a review member on the PAMR committee, as member of the Hemorrhage Task Force, and is co-chair of the Preeclampsia Task Force. He also serves a co-chair of the Dignity Health Patient Safety Improvement Coalition and is a member of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Committee.
