Kimberly D. Gregory, MD, MPH, is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship, and Vice Chair for Women's Health Quality and Performance in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai, where she holds the Helping Hand of Los Angeles–Miriam Jacobs Chair in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She also serves as Professor-in-Residence in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Community Health Sciences at UCLA.
Dr. Gregory currently chairs the California Pregnancy-Associated Review Committee, which conducts in-depth investigations of deaths during and up to one year after pregnancy to develop evidence-based prevention recommendations. She has also served in leadership roles with CMQCC.
Dr. Gregory's research focuses on health services, obstetrical resource utilization, cesarean delivery rates and appropriateness of use, and maternal care quality. She has developed algorithms for determining cesarean delivery indications using hospital administrative data, demonstrating wide variation in cesarean delivery rates by hospital, and has created frameworks and indicators for monitoring the quality of care during pregnancy and childbirth. Her more recent work examines the hospital birth experience from the patient’s perspective, with the goal of providing a safer, more respectful, and more meaningful patient experience by addressing concerns that range from better pain management to breastfeeding policies.
Dr. Gregory has received numerous honors, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' Luella Klein Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to advancing obstetric practice and improving maternal health care quality, patient safety and the patient experience; the March of Dimes Honoree Award; and the Friends of Nursing Award. She is a member of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society and serves on editorial boards for multiple professional journals, including the Joint Commission Journal on Quality Improvement and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Since joining Cedars-Sinai in 1992, Dr. Gregory has maintained dual board certifications in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Charles Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program, completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, her maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at University of Southern California, and holds a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University.
