Dear colleagues and community members,

On January 5, 2026, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published an updated childhood immunization schedule and “Fact Sheet: CDC Childhood Immunization Recommendations.” The same day, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reaffirmed guidance to follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) “Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule.”

CPQCC and CMQCC, as California’s perinatal quality collaborative, are aligned with CDPH’s recommendation. For those in California, we suggest following the AAP’s immunization schedule, which is based on established vaccine safety and effectiveness evidence.

We appreciate your continued dedication to ending preventable mortality and morbidity for the infant and pregnant patient populations.

Sincerely,

Jochen Profit, MD, MPH, Chair and Principal Investigator, CPQCC, and Co-Chair and Co-Principal Investigator, CMQCC
Deirdre Lyell, MD, Chair and Principal Investigator, CMQCC, and Co-Chair and Co-Principal Investigator, CPQCC
Leslie Kowalewski, Executive Director of Maternal, Child, and Family Health, CPQCC/CMQCC
